Bands
Live music brought to you by
Friday - Float Like a Buffalo
Float Like a Buffalo is a Denver-based 6-piece, 9-instrument, high-energy Funk Rock band. Our style is rock with funk, ska, reggae, and jam influences. Nods to the funk of Lettuce and The Motet, jam of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, rock of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Chicago Transit Authority, soul of James Brown, & high-energy guitar licks of Jimi Hendrix all combine to make a unique sound that’s impossible not to dance to.
The band, together since 2016, has become a regional funk/jam sensation over the past several years, playing sold out and near-sold-out shows at major Colorado and national venues like Red Rocks, Cervantes, The Bluebird Theater, Gothic Theatre, Levitt Pavilion, Summit Denver, The Lincoln Theatre (Cheyenne, WY), George’s Majestic Lounge (Fayetteville, AR), and Meteor (Windsor, ON) – and taking the crown for Best Funk Band in Denver in Westword’s 2019 Music Awards.
Saturday Headliner - Rattlesnake Milk
From the southern plains of Texas, Rattlesnake Milk summons the sound of the prairie, mimicking the howl of coyotes and the pulsing rhythm of a lonesome junk train. While farming cotton for a family friend, Lou Lewis found inspiration to record an eight-song demo listening to the classics played on KDAV 1590AM in the empty flatlands of his hometown. Those demos paid homage to Lou’s favorite Dust Bowl migrant songs and haunted melodic gems from the 50s and 60s.
Saturday Opener - YOPE
Formed out of the open mic scene in Durango CO, Yope is an eccentric genre blending funk-rock-jam fusion band who keeps the energy high and the dance floor moving. The members of Yope steer the improvised atmospheric scape of their jams to places that feel familiar to each of their various influences. Fans of Goose, Phish, RHCP, Ween, Talking Heads, and Black Sabbath will feel right at home at a Yope show. The crowd often leaves with strain in their voices from chanting “Yope is dope!”

The Brewfest is a two-day event, Friday August 22 and Saturday August 23. Friday is the best day to attend if you have any accessibility concerns as there will be about half the number of people attending on Friday compared to Saturday.
The Brewfest will have two accessible restrooms on site.
The Brewfest will create a “rest area” for anyone that needs to sit down, or perhaps to rest your service animal, or to just get away from the crowds and noise for a few minutes. This will be located by the front gate at 12th Street and Main Ave.

The San Juan Brewfest is GREENER than ever this year. Here are our sustainability efforts and how you can help!
We drink from a reusable tasting glass, not plastic cups, and have done so for over a decade.
Recycle bins are placed throughout the venue, and attendees are encouraged to recycle.
Breweries serving from cans or bottles agree to recycle 100% of what they bring to the event.
Attendees are allowed to bring in an empty water bottle, and a water station is available to refill water bottles all day long. The water station is sponsored by Well on Wheels.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own utensils to eat with. BYOF – bring your own fork!
Food vendors are strongly encouraged to offer low or no waste ways to serve their food.
Instead of using paper to vote for the People’s Choice Award, we have used a text to vote system for many years.
All City of Durango public transit is FREE both days of the Brewfest! Take the bus for safety and environmental reasons
The Brewfest includes in its policies Visit Durango’s Care for Durango pledge.
-
The San Juan Brewfest recognizes, publicly and intentionally, that we live, work, and organize on stolen and occupied traditional land that is just one piece of a larger, boundless terrain for Indigenous Peoples; Ute Tribe, Jicarilla Apache, Arapaho, Comanche, and the Diné Nations, and others. We acknowledge that 48 contemporary tribal nations are historically tied to the lands that make up the state of Colorado. The San Juan Brewfest would like to pay our respects to their elders, past and present, and choose to honor and acknowledge the original stewards of this land in hopes of building mutual respect and understanding across all cultures – those that reside here and those that pass through here today and in the future.
